Inside the $760M restoration of Notre Dame  cathedral The new rooster is added to the top of Notre Dame cathedral in Paris on December 16, as rebuilding continues after a catastrophic fire in 2019. While the spire is still currently encased in scaffolding, the 860-year-old building will reopen in 2024. As tourists and Parisian gathered outside the UNESCO-listed cathedral to admire the return of one of its most emblematic features — for now, still encased in scaffolding — the Notre Dame worksite remained in full swing.
